About this trip

A 9-night guided pilgrimage through the heart of Tuscany, from the walled city of Lucca to Siena’s majestic Piazza del Campo. Walk historic lanes, vineyards, cypress-lined ridges, and medieval towns including San Miniato, San Gimignano, and Monteriggioni. This is the classic pace version of the Lucca–Siena route with full walking days and memorable trail rewards. Includes professional guides, van support, luggage transfers, breakfasts and dinners, curated lodgings, and two bonus city days in Lucca and Siena.

Arrive in Lucca

Settle into one of Italy’s most elegant small cities. Walk the historic walls, visit San Martino Cathedral, and enjoy dinner in Lucca’s leafy piazzas.

Bonus Day in Lucca

A free day to explore Lucca’s museums, churches, towers, and gardens. Optional city bike ride, Cathedral treasures, or the world-class Puccini museum.

Lucca to Altopascio - 18.3km

A warm-up, first walk through Lucca's suburbs, featuring Romanesque churches, and bike lanes. Reach Altopascio, long known as a medieval pilgrim town with ancient hospitality traditions.

Day 4

Day 4 image

Altopascio to San Miniato - 28.7km

A longer stage across forest tracks and historic Medici waterways. Finish with a scenic ascent to San Miniato’s skyline of towers, cathedral square, and Tuscan restaurants.

Day 5

Day 5 image

San Miniato to Gambassi Terme - 24.1km

Walk ridge paths through vineyards, olive groves, and wide Tuscan views. End in Gambassi Terme, home to hot springs and a gentle hilltop sunset.

Day 6

Gambassi Terme to San Gimignano - 13.7km

A shorter day through rolling farmland and chestnut woods. Arrive in San Gimignano, the “city of towers,” with time for gelato, museums, and medieval piazzas.

Day 7

Day 7 image

San Gimignano to Monteriggioni - 27.4km

One of the trip’s most beautiful stages. Pass Roman road stones, quiet farm villas, and vineyards before the dramatic arrival at Monteriggioni’s circular fortress walls.

Day 8

Day 8 image

Monteriggioni to Siena - 20.6km

Fields and forest tracks lead toward Siena’s medieval gates. Enter through ancient walls and conclude at Piazza del Campo, one of Italy’s great urban spaces.

Day 9

Day 9 image

Bonus Day in Siena

A free day exploring Siena’s museums, Duomo, Gothic palaces, and cafés. Optional wine tastings or day trips to the Crete Senesi.

Day 10

Day 10 image

Depart Siena

Transfers and farewells after a week in Tuscany’s golden hills.
